On October 31, Halloween awakens the ghouls, goblins, and curious creatures who emerge to haunt the neighborhood, seeking treats instead of tricks. They ring your bell and scream “TRICK OR TREAT” and you better have some quality store bought candy to give them – or else 😅

Halloween traces its roots back to an ancient pagan harvest festival marking the end of summer and the arrival of winter. During Samhain (pronounced “sah-win”), people believed the boundaries between the living and the dead blurred. Bonfires were lit, and costumes were worn to protect against spirits while interacting with them.

Roman traditions honoring the dead eventually merged with these Celtic practices. Later, in 609 A.D., Pope Boniface IV established All Martyrs’ Day, which Pope Gregory III moved to November 1, renaming it All Saints’ Day. The evening before became known as All Hallows’ Eve, eventually transforming into Halloween.

Halloween traditions capture the imagination of kids all ages. We don costumes, carve glowing pumpkins, and bake seasonal treats. Children bring storybook characters to life, practicing their “trick or treat” mantra as they journey in pairs or groups. They parade through the streets with pillowcases in hand, gathering sweets as ghosts, pirates, robots, super heroes, movie stars or even Dorothy and Toto. Doorbells ring, a knock echoes, and sometimes, a playful screech or boo fills the air. Please no Presidential Elections Costumes – PLEASE.
